Pray For Us!

This prayer request is contained in one of the final sentences of Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonian church. The church was less than a year old when 1 Thessalonians was written.

Paul’s mission in Thessalonica is outlined in Acts 17. It was a brief venture, as he was soon chased out of town by an angry mob. He relocates to Berea, but is then followed and must flee from there too.

When the coast was clear, Paul had Timothy go back to see how the Thessalonians were doing. Paul then writes them a letter of encouragement, which is 1 Thessalonians.

The Thessalonians were very aware of the resistance that Paul was facing in his ministry, having witnessed the drama surrounding his time with them, and so, asking them to pray for him was a sincere request.

In a similar way, we each have personal relationships with those who serve in gospel ministry in our own context, and so we can hear the words of Paul, as if it is coming from them, “Brothers and sisters, pray for us.”

These individuals include, but are not limited to:

  • Pastors and Church Leaders
  • Missionaries
  • Co-laborers with us in the ministries we serve in
Pray for Our Ministry Team

  • Daniel Bayssassew – Missionary Evangelist
  • Dan Anderson – Church Leader Relations

Every Christian must faithfully fight against the world, the Devil, and the flesh! But those who serve in vocational ministry often are in the direct crosshairs.

Will you pause right now to lift up before the Lord your pastor and/or a missionary you support? Please also pray through these 4 F’s for those who serve on the frontlines.

Families

  • For their spouse and marriage.
  • That their children would walk with the Lord.
  • For bold gospel witness to unsaved family members.
  • For health, protection, and to model Christ at home.

Faithfulness
  • To hold on to sound doctrine.
  • To remain morally pure.
  • To work heartily in the ministry.
  • To teach the full counsel of God’s word.
Finances
  • To be good stewards of what God has entrusted them.
  • To be grateful and content.
  • To be well supplied for the ministry.
  • To remember the poor.

Fruitfulness
  • For success in making many disciples.
  • To be used mightily in building up the saints.
  • That they would see God’s hand at work in their ministry.
  • That the fruit of the Spirit would grow in them and through them.

We’re praying for you too!

The prayer channel does not only flow from you to God, but also from them to God too! The same Apostle Paul who ends his letter asking for prayer, also opens his letter with this statement:

“We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers, remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thess. 1:2-3, ESV)

Doubtless your pastors and church leaders are praying for you. We at The Cross Current also thank God for you and regularly pray for you.

Nettie Neufeld, our Gospel Partner Relations lead, is devoted to praying for our ministry and supporters and equipping our Gospel Prayer Team to do the same. You can email your prayer requests to [email protected] and she would be happy to hear from you and bring your requests before God.

Let’s continue petitioning our gracious God to provide all we need to walk forward in faithful and fruitful service of His glorious Son together.

As we enjoy this summer season with family and loved ones, may we take these words to heart and, “pray continually.” (1 Thess. 5:17, NIV)

Because Canada needs Christ,

The Cross Current Team
