Welcome to our September E-Tools Newsletter! This monthly TCC field report also includes helpful outreach resources to encourage and equip you to more faithfully share the Gospel with all the loved ones in your life as we witness for Christ in Canada together.

Friday, September 6th was incredible! It is so difficult to put into words what happened. I want to tell every detail, but I’ll keep it as short as I can.

We had been at Dundas and Richmond in the “lions’ den” of downtown London for a while. As Jeff Mardling was open air preaching and we were passing tracts, I saw a young man heading towards me.

I had noticed him watching for a bit, so I passed him a tract as he approached. He immediately asked me why God allowed life to be so difficult. Totally unprepared to answer, I asked him what he thought would happen to him if he died. His eyes immediately teared up and God graciously gave me the words to go through the Law and the Gospel.

We talked for a few minutes and with his eyes filled with tears, he confided in me that he had come downtown to kill himself and he even had letters written to his family with him. He told me that on his way, he had prayed for a sign. When he heard and saw us preaching, he was pretty sure that was his sign.

I asked if I could pray for him and we sat on the sidewalk right there while I prayed that God would open his eyes to the truth. We talked for a while longer and I explained the Gospel to him again, gave him a Bible, and he said he would like to come to church.

This young man was so gracious, and he actually thanked me for being there and talking to him. Imagine, amidst all the people hurling insults at us, God impacts this young man to the point he thanked me.

Praise God for allowing us to be part of this great commission! Praise God for answering prayer that His word would speed ahead and to open a door to declare the mystery of Christ!

As I write, I just received an email that this young man and his best friend want to come to church tomorrow!  Praise our Lord for answering prayer!

Please pray for these young men and prayerfully avail yourself of the opportunity to serve our Lord Jesus on the local mission field.

Thursday, September 19 marked the start of our Gospel Outreach to the students of Western University. On this beautiful September day, we were asking young people about the big questions of life and sharing the answers that God has provided in His Holy Word.

It was almost the end of our outreach and Cory McKenna was finishing a conversation with a student. At the same time, the rest of us were passing our Million Dollar Bill tracts. Two passing students each received one.

After a few minutes, one of these student came back holding the tract in his hand, visibly agitated. He walked straight to Cory, interrupted the conversation, and complained about the tract he had received. I walked over to examine the nature of the complaint this young man had.

He started talking with me and then declared that the tract he had received is nothing more than the waste of paper. I took the tract from his hand, pointed to the side where the Gospel of Jesus Christ is printed and asked him: “Are you telling us that what is written here is not true?” He answered that “some of it is”. However, as our conversation progressed he couldn’t even define what he meant by truth! This is not a new question.

In John 18:38, Pilate asked Jesus“What is truth?”, all the while the embodiment of the Truth was standing in from of him. It was of no surprise that ensuing conversation I had with this smart, second year engineering student clearly revealed his confusion as he doesn’t know the One “…in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (Colossians 2:3).

Right: Edin Azabagic correcting his opponent with gentleness at Western University

In 2 Timothy 2:24-25 we read that those who present divine truths need to be“…kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth”. As I was talking with this student, God gave me a compassion for this young man.

Often times non-Christians will not know what they are saying because they are confused, they are walking contradictions. They are trying to make their lives work in a world that God created, while in the same time denying Him (Romans 1:21). This is a terrible situation which makes for a miserable existence.

As our conversation progressed, I was able to share the Gospel with this student and tell him that there is only one reason for our encounter: Jesus was calling this young man to follow Him (Matthew 11:28-30). I also explained that without the answers which God provides, the existential questions about life will continue to be ultimately mysterious and therefore irrational. In fact, without starting with the Christian God, he cannot even make sense of why he is going to school in the morning!

Our conversation came to an end in a much better standing than when it started. Our team prayed for all the people we had witnessed to that day.

As we were leaving the campus, a realization dawned on me. The confusion that comes from rejecting the Way, the Truth and the Life (John 14:6) is multiplied by hundreds upon hundreds of these young people at the Western University. This is further multiplied by thousands upon thousand of other students at universities across our province and across our nation.

This is a whole generation growing up without knowing the reason and meaning for their lives. While I am personally committed to this kind of outreach to the lost, I felt like one who is only able to grasp at few twigs heading in the fire. The need for those who can witness and proclaim the Truth is truly tremendous.

In Luke 21:15, Jesus said to his followers: “I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict”. In His Grace, God has risen up ministries such as The Cross Current to equip Christians to more faithfully advance and defend the Gospel as we all partake our place in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). Please join us!

Though God has uniquely gifted some as equipping evangelists, He also holds each individual Christ-follower responsible to do the work of an evangelist by preaching the Gospel. This is why the majority of the training TCC conducts in churches and at conferences is specifically in the area of personal witnessing!

Do you know…?

Do you know that the average person knows at least 500 people? Assuming that even half of your personal contacts are non-Christian, before you and your church “go” to the highways and byways to preach Christ…

  • a church of 100 would have a personal mission field of at least 25,000 lost loved ones
  • a church of 500 would have a personal mission field of at least 112,500 lost loved ones
  • a church of 1000 would have a personal mission field of at least 225,000 lost loved ones

That’s the power of sharing Christ with family and friends, and that’s also why we believe that equipping churches in personal witnessing is top priority!

Get equipped to equip others in your church with TCC

“Kerusso” is the Greek word used in the New Testament for preaching. It was Charles Spurgeon who wrote: “No sort of defense is needed for preaching outdoors, but it would take a very strong argument to prove that a man who has never preached beyond the walls of his meetinghouse has done his duty.”The Bible’s full of those who preached God’s Word open air. Noah, Moses, Jonah, Peter, Paul, and – of course – Jesus Himself…just to name a few. Preaching the Gospel open air is biblical and that’s why The Cross Current does it an equips others to do it too.The NEW open air message you’ll hear in this special episode of TCC Radio was recorded live onsite in Victoria Park in London, Ontario at another “Church in the Park” service with Harvest Bible Chapel London.

Let’s continue partnering together to keep our prayer pulse for TCC and the Church in Canada strong!

There are four specific petitions that we humbly request that you, your family, and your church continue lifting up to the Lord on our behalf related to our ministry calendar in October and throughout the rest of the year:

> Fall and Winter Witnessing

Please pray that the Lord motivates and moves all those saints we equipped this summer to continue being faithful in the field over the colder fall and winter witnessing months.

> Church Champions Training Retreats

As equipping evangelists within local churches is the heartbeat of The Cross Current, please pray that the Lord will help us receive all the support we need to host more Church Champions Training Retreats.

> Partnership Opportunities

As outreach radio expansion continues to be a major ministry objective for 2013, please pray that the Lord helps us equip and release additional TCC radio representatives as more partner churches and radio stations embrace the partnership opportunities associated with our outreach broadcast.

> Donations

Canada needs Christ! Please pray that God will speak to the hearts of more and more supporters who will financially support our work of equipping by example pastors, Christians, and their churches to share the Gospel in Canada.

Continue keeping a pulse on our prayer needs

We thank God for you, your church, and our partnership in His Gospel!
