Welcome to our February E-Tools Newsletter! This monthly TCC field report also includes helpful outreach resources to encourage and equip you to more faithfully share the Gospel with all the loved ones in your life as we witness for Christ in Canada together.

What do you get when you cross: the Gospel, 110 street evangelists, and the largest sporting event in North America? The 2012 Super Bowl Outreach!

On February 2nd, yours truly and our friendly neighborhood presuppositional apologist, Sye Ten Bruggencate, hit the road bound for 3 grueling and God-glorying days of street witnessing in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Not only was it a joy to step onto the mission field with an army of like-minded Christian soldiers, but suffice to say that it was a huge blessing to squeeze Sye’s brain for 14 hours down and back as well!:)

The event was hosted by Bill Adams of Sports Fan Outreach, an organization dedicated to taking the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the fans attending major sporting events across the U.S.A. and the world.

As you can hopefully imagine, there were countless testimonies of God’s sovereign grace experienced throughout these 4 days of sharing Christ together.

Budding evangelists preaching the Gospel open air for the very first time…people being powerfully drawn out of the crowd by the Spirit of God to talk about His Son while their drunk friends waited impatiently for them to finish the conversation…tears of repentance and faith as convicted passerby’s responded to the public preaching of Christ crucified. Just more exciting reminders that our God truly is mighty to save!

Perhaps the most inspiring “glory story” from the streets of Indianapolis involved a 75 year-old street evangelist named Frank Robertson. Frank shared how he has been faithfully praying for over 20 years that God would raise up some young evangelists to take his place. His eyes filled with tears when one of our team leaders told him: “We’re the answer to your prayers!” To God be the glory!

First, I need to thank Bill Adams of Sports Fan Outreach and the following Christ-followers from our team:

  • Justin Edwards (Leader) – Charlotte, NC
  • Dustin Segers (Leader) – High Point, NC
  • Aaron Beane – Charlotte, NC
  • Brian Ottinger – Huntersville, NC
  • Buck Hamilton – Concord, NC
  • Kent Blalock – Concord, NC
  • Shawn & Lisa Pander – Mt. Holly, NC
  • Chris Landrum – Manning, SC
  • Ed Leese – Easley, SC

Left: Forget game tickets of $2700 – $5700 per seat…check out the price for parking!

I also need to thank all the beloved saints who were upholding me and our team in prayer for the duration of this mission. I know that I speak on behalf of all the other evangelists involved when I say that the Lord strengthened us for the task through your faithful prayers!

“On the Box” is a daily (Monday through Friday) live, 28-minute, web-based talk show hosted by the Living Waters team. While saying that Living Waters LOVES TCC may be a little over the top, we can confirm that this past Valentine’s Day our very own Cory McKenna was featured on the program in an open air preaching segment recorded during the Super Bowl Outreach weekend! Coincidence? I think so!

Here are a couple gracious comments that hosts Ray Comfort and Tony Miano shared about Cory’s preaching:

“I love the way Cory spoke. I like his congeniality and I the way he asked the person’s name and showed respect. It was great!” ~ Ray

“I love the way Cory McKenna calmly interacts with people when he preaches. Outstanding!” ~ Tony

What a privilege and honour to receive such encouraging words from two evangelism leaders who have such a significant impact on my personal life and ministry! To God be all the glory!

The Cross Current equips the Church by example to engage the culture. The training that we offer can take place onsite and/or offsite, depending on how our contribution will best add value to the vision each church has for their particular event.

This month we are very pleased to report that, by God’s grace, we have enjoyed fruitful times of equipping both in the pulpit and on the pavement too!

Local Missions Conference

This month Cory McKenna was invited to speak at a local missions conference called “The Field Across the Street”, hosted by Stoney Creek Baptist Church in London, Ontario.

Upon arriving onsite at the conference, Cory discovered that the theme verse was Acts 1:8: you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Considering the fact thatthe interactive seminar Cory had prepared was called “Being Christ’s Witnesses Together” in direct reference to this same passage of Scripture, all of the ministry leaders enjoyed wonderful confirmation that God was already at work in a mighty way!

“Canada needs Christ!” was Cory’s battlecry of the night as he shared what the Bible teaches about being Christ’s witnesses and how Christ Himself has gifted and equipped us to reach out to the lost and dying in His Name together.

Extreme Team Update!

While God commands his people to preach His word in season and out of season (2 Timothy 2:4), remaining faithful to the work of sowing seed on the local mission field in the dead cold of February can be a challege for even the most zealous Gospel preachers!

However, by God’s grace, our extreme team has been averaging around 10 harvest workers a week throughout this winter and one particular Friday night this month we even hit an all-time TCC winter record of 18 evangelists!

Here are a couple encouraging testmonies from two of our newest extreme team members:

Jonathan Tay

My name is Jonathan and I’m a student at the University of Western Ontario (UWO).

Cory left an open invitation for our on-campus fellowship (Asian Christian Fellowship) to come out and join The Cross Current to hit the streets of London and share the Gospel. After his invite, I knew I had to go, but had not been given an opportunity to go due to prior commitments but as soon as I had the opportunity I went.

I decided to go because I knew it was in accordance to what God wants, which is to further His kingdom (Matt 28:19-20). Prior to actually going, a few of us got together to pray and share our feelings prior to doing it and many of us didn’t know what to expect.

I was paired up with Chris, John G., and Josiah. Josiah and I were new to doing this and God provided a huge variety of conversations that really tested how deep we were in the Word. There were many rejections and many good conversations as well. Although no one accepted Christ that night, we were reminded constantly that our conversations and witnessing don’t save people, but rather it is God himself who does the work in their hearts.

To other believers struggling on whether to go or not, I would say trust that He alone sustains you while you are out there so pray a lot before going. Also, pray for a heart that aches for the lost and in so doing, taking that first step will make much more sense.

Wendy Liu

My name is Wendy Liu and I am in the business administration program at UWO.

After Cory McKenna spoke at our Asian Christian Fellowship annual Winter Retreat last month, I prayerfully decided to take him up on the challenge to hit the streets with his weekly extreme street team to experience the power of the Gospel first-hand.

I think many of us have a fear of being a bother to people so we don’t reach out to strangers. We fear that talking to them is like interrupting their day, but that fear comes from honouring man’s preference over God’s commands for us. God showed me that my choice to uphold the preference of strangers was in violation of his first command, “You shall have no other gods before me.”

I realized that I sin when I choose to be silent in the face of the opportunities our Lord presents, and whether or not it’s out of my comfort zone is not an acceptable excuse anymore. Praise God!

I wanted to become more equipped in conversation tools, so having the opportunity to observe others speaking and get an idea of what kinds of people I may meet on the street was a really beneficial experience. It’s not so hard! God is the one who transforms lives, we just need to gently and respectfully speak the truth.

If you are struggling, I encourage you to pray persistently and read God’s commands for you to share the gospel. Through Spirit-led conviction by his Word, I have confidence that God will move you to witness!

In production of this special “super” series of TCC Radio, your host Cory McKenna enlisted with an army of Gospel seed sowers from all across North America to blitz the streets of Indianapolis during Super Bowl weekend.

When the whistle blows, you’ll hear open air preaching, one-to-one Gospel conversations, and powerful testimony of what went down at Super Bowl forty-six. PLUS we’ll plug you into even more TCC media coverage of this outreach, an evangelism event that’s earned the title of one of the largest in the history of our ministry.

When all was said and done, Cory and his team spent more than 30 hours talking truth with faithful football fans about where they’ll touchdown after fourth-and-one…in the end zone of eternity.
