“GOING” WEST TO MAKE DISCIPLES

This month The Cross Current had the privilege of “going” west to make disciples in partnership with Creation Ministries International at their 2012 Western Canadian Bible & Science Conference in Red Deer, Alberta. This specialized conference brought believers together to enrich their understanding of the Bible, help them engage the world around them, and grow stronger in their faith. From October 25th to 27th, participants were systematically equipped by seasoned Bible defenders to deal with some of the toughest topics in church today.

Is the Bible reliable? What about evolution? Is belief in miracles unscientific? What about dinosaurs? How can I evangelize more? What about aliens and U.F.O.’s? How can I counter Atheism? How should we understand the Bible? Why are young people turning away from church? These are just some of the many questions answered throughout this conference.

TCC Topics

Cory’s first session, titled “Bringing Truth to Life and Witness”, taught through Acts 17 to lay a biblical foundation for preaching the Gospel and always being ready to give a reasoned defense to the glory of God.

Cory’s second session, titled “Turning ‘Hot Topics’ into Witnessing Opportunities”, leveraged his years of evangelism experience to equip participants with specific probing questions to ask Atheists/Agnostics towards sharing the Answer: Jesus Christ. This session taught participants how to use our new “Questions & The Answer for Atheists/Agnostics” tract, now available HERE on our online Store.

Here is how Richard Fangrad, CEO of CMI Canada, testifies to how The Cross Current’s involvement impacted the conference:

It was a great joy to have Pastor Cory McKenna present two sessions on evangelism at CMI’s 2012 Bible and Science conference in Red Deer, Alberta this month. Cory’s knowledge, passion, and useful examples on how to share the Gospel were much appreciated by our many attendees.

One of CMI’s main goals is to equip believers in the important area of origins, but the ultimate goal is, of course, for believers to be able to share the Gospel confidently. Cory’s presentations were a great benefit in demonstrating practical ways to do so.

Creation Ministries International (CMI) is a Christian apologetics ministry dedicated to upholding the authority of the Bible by equipping Christians to defend their faith and enabling them to give answers to the questions many people have regarding science and the Bible.

Equipping the Saints in Calgary

As if having a voice at the 2012 Western Canadian Bible & Science Conference wasn’t enough, Cory also had the privilege of preaching at Harvest Bible Chapel Calgary on Sunday, October 28th under the leadership of Pastor Trevor Peacock.

The sermon shared was called “Being Christ’s Witnesses”. Here’s the synopsis: Jesus said, “you will be my witnesses” (Acts 1:8). But what exactly did He mean by that? This rallying message searched the Scriptures to find out that God has already given us everything we need to be His witnesses together.

Special thanks to all of our brothers and sisters in Christ at Harvest Calgary for your friendly reception and faithful response to the message that was shared!

A very special thanks as well to Kevin St. John, our newest TCC Rep, and his beautiful family for their graciousness and willingness to host Cory throughout his time in Alberta.

PREACHING AT THE “PROOF OF GOD” CONFERENCE

Earlier this month, The Cross Current had the honor of serving the saints and loving the lost in partnership with Eric Hovind and Creation Today at their very first Proof of God Conference in Orlando, Florida.

With “Atheism” on the rise and resistance to Christianity coming from all directions, it’s critical that we know exactly what we believe and why we believe it! This two-day conference helped participants revolutionize the way they prove their faith.

Applied Apologetics with TCC

The 2012 Proof of God conference street witnessing class

After several sessions of evangelistic and apologetic instruction, Cory McKenna and his ministry partner Edin Azabagic, were commissioned to equip by example a class of new witnessing warriors onto the streets of Orlando at a large shopping plaza near the conference site.

Though the tight training schedule only allowed us to witness for a total of one-hour, throughout that time we managed to pass tracts, share Christ one-to-one, preach the Gospel open air, and get kicked off the property by local officials…all in less than 60 minutes!

Below: Even Gumby got a tract at the Proof of God Conference!

While we obviously would’ve loved to have more time to invest in the lives of all those the Lord allowed us to lead into applied apologetics, we are very thankful for the opportunity to play a small part in making the Proof of God Conference such a huge success!

Here is how Eric Hovind of Creation Today characterizes TCC’s involvement and impact in the very first Proof of God Conference:

The Proof of God conference was blessed to have Cory McKenna and Edin Azabagic help the rubber meet the road with practical hands on training.

These guys are pros! For many of the people that Cory and Edin coached, it was their first time putting their faith into practice and actually approaching someone with the truth of the Gospel. To have guys of this caliber pay their own way to a conference and play such a vital role was amazing, and a little opportunistic on my part I will admit. I guess I am going to have to consider buying their plane tickets to the next one!

From the entire Creation Today Team, we thank you guys for bringing this conference what it really needed. I pray we don’t lose that focus in the future.

PRESUPPOSITIONAL PREACHING IN ACTION!

“Presuppositional Apologetics”. Heard of it? If you haven’t…you need to!

I know that I speak on behalf of the entire TCC preaching team when I say that we thank God for the ministry of our good friend, Sye Ten Bruggencate of Absolute Apologetics.

Learn to defend your faith by watching Sye’s “Featured Videos” on our TCC TV Vimeo channel
A month ago we stepped out in faith to co-lead a team of apologetic preachers with Sye and Harvest Bible Chapel London to begin reasoning from the Scriptures at the edge of the Western University campus in our hometown of London, Ontario. Suffice to say, God’s great grace has been upon this new outreach since sermon one!

While our objective is always to preach the Gospel, as it is the power of God unto salvation for everyone who believes (Romans 1:16), defending the hope of Christ that’s in us requires at least a basic biblical understanding of this form of reasoned argumentation.

While I am still very much a “presuppositional preacher in training”, I trust that the Lord will use this encounter in evangelism captured on video to encourage and equip you and your church to “go” and advance and defend the Gospel…while there’s still time.
