Keeping the Cross current…through !

-

I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.

(1 Corinthians 9:22-23)

TCC exists to equip the Church to keep the Cross current in our culture, both for the sake of the Gospel and for the salvation of the lost.

Keeping connected with in the news can facilitate fantastic ways to become all things to all people, so that by all means we might save some.

World Class Witnesses

First, through keeping connected with , God graciously allows us to become “world class witnesses” for Him who love the lost beyond just our own Jerusalem into the uttermost part of the earth. This results in a commitment to pray for the salvation of souls all around the world and for the missionaries who have been called to reach them.

It’s also been our experience that the eternal impact of becoming world class witnesses often extends beyond our personal life and witness into our family life and witness as well! For example, to keep the Cross current with , one of the evangelists with TCC now leads his family to set aside the first workday of every week as “Missions Monday”. This involves his children doing basic research on a country and their family taking the week to pray together for God to grant repentance to those who live there.

Conversational Common Ground

Second, through keeping connected with , God graciously gives us the conversational common ground we need to relate to as many people as possible in our own local mission field about the bigger matters of life, death, and eternity. The recent earthquake tragedy in Haiti continues to facilitate many such opportunities for Gospel outeach…

By now you have likely been exposed to many of the horrific images of the devastation in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, after the city was hit with a 7.0 earthquake. As local missionaries, it’s times like these that we can feel as helpless as the rest of the world in the wake of disaster.

However, in addition to continuing to pray diligently for the physical needs of all those involved in this tragedy, as per Jesus’ words in Luke 13:1-5, we have also been using this current event as conversational common ground to share the message of repentance and faith in Jesus Christ…while there is still time.

In effort to more effectively equip the Church to “normalize” evangelism with loved ones and strangers, TCC is now developing a special section of our Studio/Street Blog called “”. Here we will post field reports and audio files of our radio reps using in the culture as conversational common ground to lead the lost to the Cross.

Click here to access our very first “Current Events” posting; a Gospel encounter on the street surrounding the subject of Haiti

We sincerely pray that these “” encounters in evangelism will serve to help you continue growing strong in your own evangelistic giftings!

TCC Radio LIVE: When sharing the Good News goes bad

TCC Radio host Cory McKenna is thanking God for “nine lives” – but not in the way you may think. Not only has He now allowed us to broadcast nine live radio shows, but He also continues to show Himself strong on our behalf…even when doing the right thing seems to go wrong.

Right: Norm Millar of Harvest Bible Chapel of London was our most recent special guest on TCC Radio LIVE

On this month’s episode of TCC Radio live, we extended the program to one full hour in hopes of helping Pastor Norm Millar and Harvest Bible Chapel of London spread the life-giving message that Christians need never be silent about the Gospel. In addition to dialoguing in the studio about various aspects of biblical life and witness, we also enjoyed another real-time Gospel conversation from the studio to the street via cell phone in a segment that we call “”.

What would you do if things got tripped up by circumstances out of your control when sharing your faith?

Hear what Norm and Cory did when sharing the Good News went bad on live radio!

Helping the World Find Hope in Haiti

TCC Field Report | January 16, 2010

As our team of radio reps gathered together to pray before we went out for our weekly witnessing, a thought occurred to me. Haiti had just experienced one of the greatest earthquakes in recorded history. The people there had lost everything: family, friends, all their possessions. It also occured to me that they would probably give anything to be where we are right now.

God has graciously blessed us with so much in this country, and what can we do to say thanks? Well, we could start by doing what He has commanded us to do – go out and preach His Gospel to every creature. Not that we need to pay Him back for His grace (and not that we every could), but if we are truly thankful to the God Who has given us so much, why would we not all want to please  Him by doing the very thing He has commanded us all to do?

What if tomorrow was our “Haiti experience”? What if we were in their shoes tomorrow? This overwhelming thought drove me, and the rest of our team, to step out in faith and talk about the Haiti earthquake with the people in our community and to more boldly share the Hope that is within us. If tomorrow we knew people were going to die in an earthquake here, where would these people be going when they died? Do they know the Lord Jesus Christ?

We had some great conversations with people and our hope was that they would see that in a blink of an eye, everything could be taken away…even their life! What are you hoping in, or more importantly, who are you hoping in? We need to plead with people to see that in their current state, they have no hope (or a false hope), and true hope comes only with repenting and trusting in Jesus Christ. So, if we lost everything here tomorrow like Haiti has lost today, we could rest in our eternal security even through a temporal disaster.

Kickin’ it old-school with “Absolute Truth”

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

AbsoluteTruthThis Friday we’ll be broadcasting the four part series “Absolute Truth” which was actually the very first series to follow our current format. We were just one year old in April 2008 when this series last hit the airwaves so it’ll probably be new to most of our listeners this coming week.

Truth doesn’t change.

Meanwhile back at the ranch we’re going to be calling people and organizations we’ve been trying to get the time to contact for a long time now. We’re looking to build some new support, get some new members on our team and honour God from one coast of this fine country right to the other. So listen, if you love what’s happening with TCC then why not give us a hand personally or support us financially?

Thanks for listening!

TCC Studio Has a “Mac Attack”

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

By TCC Writer/Producer Kevin Lane TCC-StudioUpgrade2

Recently we put the message out that the computer Cory uses needed to be upgraded in a very bad way! Thank you to those who responded and helped us get a used MacBook Pro!!! I’ve been using SONAR on Windows to mix the show for a long time now. As we discussed Cory’s use of the Mac we realized it makes a lot of sense for us all to be on the same setup. So my family went out and purchased an “open box” MacBook Pro, Logic Studio and an Apogee ONE audio interface. Being a huge fan of Linux I wasn’t afraid to make the switch one bit, and really I’m not looking back. Last week’s show (Shema O Islam part 4) is hopefully the last episode of TCC which will ever be done in Windows.

Right now I’m working on a template for the new shows, thankfully we’re going fully live again this week so I’ve got a few extra days to get up to speed. Anyway I thought you all might like a look at the new studio setup. So check it out!

Mission Possible in Haiti

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

By now you have likely seen at least some of the horrific news footage of the devastation unfolding in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, after the city was hit with a 7.0 earthquake. It is estimated that the death toll could be in the tens of thousands.

This afternoon my heart was breaking as I watched a video update of a terrified little girl who was desperately crying for her mother and father as she lay trapped under the wreckage. The reporter made sure to share that sending a Bible through a crack in the rock was one of the first “lifelines” extended. We pray that God will show Himself strong on her behalf.

While we thank God for ALL the relief workers who are sacrificing themselves to help bring various forms of relief and rescue to the Haitian people, I would also humbly draw your attention to one particular missions organization that God has been using powefully in Haiti for a number of years called Mission Possible (MP).

MP President, Kurt Bishop, candidly shares his heart as follows:

“This is a very tragic time for Haiti. Mission Possible is doing everything we can within the limitations of communications and the scale of disaster.”

As local missionaries, it’s times like these that we can feel as helpless as the rest of the world in the wake of disaster. However, with God there is always hope. Please click here to visit and bookmark MP’s site and begin to pray for rescue, relief, and repentance of all those involved with this terrible tragedy.

In Him,

Cory

Prayer Pulse – January 2010

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

This brief posting will provide you with strategic points of prayer that we thank you in advance for lifting up to the Lord on our behalf this month.

On Saturday, January 2nd, our core ministry team came together for our annual prayer and planning meeting. More results of the meeting will be reflected here on our online ministry calendar in the weeks to come.  In the meantime, here is where we sense God is leading our ministry in 2010, based on our mission as a ministry.

Here is the mission of TCC:

His Gospel. His Gifts. His Glory.

The Cross Current (TCC) is a local missions ministry and outreach broadcast bringing glory to God’s Name in Canada by unifying His Church in His Gospel and helping pastors equip all Christians under their care to be His witnesses everyday, everywhere, to everyone, as one body serving in accordance with the various gifts He has given each.

Everything we spend our time, talents, and treasures taking part in this year will directly contribute to this mission. Conversely, time is of the essence, and we will not be doing things that fail to contribute directly to this mission.

Our main ministry goals for 2010 are as follows:

1. Prayer as Priority 1
2. Secure Home Base (London)
3. Donor Development (Cross Carriers)
4. Expansion & Exposure
5. The Cross Current Television Program Production
6. Ministry Development
7. Stabilize all things web

Thank you in advance for your prayer support! Please also click here to find out more about praying with and for The Cross Current.
