Welcome to our brand new E-Tools ! This monthly TCC field report also includes strategic outreach resources to encourage, equip, and empower you to more effectively share the Gospel with all the loved ones in your life as we faithfully serve Christ in Canada together.

“GO Team” Go!

The Harvest Bible Chapel of London “GO Team”

What do you call a group of Christ-followers commissioned by their local church and equipped by The Cross Current to preach the Gospel, while working together to serve the spiritual, emotional, and material needs of the lost in their community? At TCC we call it a Gospel Outreach (GO) Team…and we can help you and your church launch one!

On Saturday November 21st, two months of evangelism training and preparation converged on the campus of the University of Western Ontario (UWO) where TCC and several members of the Harvest Bible Chapel of London (HBCL) GO Team partnered together for an “all-original” outreach.

Right: The HBCL GO Team works together to turn a busy public street corner into “seed sowing central”!

This year marks a double anniversary in the life of Charles Darwin: his 200th birthday and the 150th anniversary of his controversial classic, Origin of Species. Not only did we enjoy origins/Gospel conversations with over 85 students, parents, and professors surrounding this subject, but we also managed to round up over 40 emails and distribute close to 100 copies of the special “Gospelized” version of Darwin’s book, as republished by Living Waters Publications.

Left: HBCL GO Team member, Rebecca Coyne, uses an origins/worldview survey as a springboard to build a relationship and share the Gospel.

Perhaps the most memorable encounter of the day involved a student named Dan who had an overtly critical reaction to the origins resources we were giving out. Cory was the recipient of Dan’s four-letter words of welcome! After letting our new friend vent for a few minutes, Cory responded by saying: “You must have pretty strong beliefs to react that passionately about a supposed science book! Maybe we’re more alike than you realize!” Cory then began to dialogue with Dan about the fact that we all have faith about what happened in history because none of us were actually there to observe it for ourselves. Further, it’s this personal faith commitment about the past that determines how we interpret the same evidence that we all share in the present. After somewhat diffusing Dan’s desire for fighting about the issue, the Lord then opened up the door to share a very candid conversation about the Creator, His Word, His Son, and His Gospel. Though Dan didn’t commit to showing up at church the next morning, he did give Cory his email and request recontact. Praise God!

TCC exists to equip all the saints in your church for the work of evangelism. We offer both personal and community witnessing workshops to help you more effectively share the Gospel in all your personal relationships and beyond.

In addition to taking the HBCL GO Team through our workshop training, here are a couple other online resources we used in preparation for our origins outreach together that we encourage you to take advantage of as well:

Origins/worldview series called “What On Earth Is Going On?” (TCC Radio)

Article on witnessing to evolutionists called “Hitting the Nail on the Head” (CMI)

TCC Radio: Giving the Greatest Gift…LIVE!

TCC Radio is going live for Christmas! We trust that God will help us help you keep the Cross current and keep the Christ in Christmas in a very unique and special way this holiday season.

Starting on Friday December 4th, our regular radio broadcast and podcast will feature inspirational in-studio Christmas commentary and real-time reports from our field reps on the streets. Invite your family and friends to tune in to hear Gospel glory stories from across the country, open air preaching, and live “wireless witnessing” encounters via cell phone!

Listen to the “TCC Radio LIVE! @ Christmas” commercial

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

Just as God freely gave, we want to do the same by freely giving God’s greatest gift of all to the loved ones in our lives this Christmas! To get equipped for more effective personal evangelism at this most wonderful witnessing time of year, we have produced a free audio tract to share with all of our family and friends.

This very special Christmas episode of TCC Radio has been carefully remixed and reinforced with a Christ-centred introduction to provide non-Christians with an accurate biblical context for the Christmas story. So, instead of just giving your unsaved loved ones another pair of socks this season, why not stuff their stockings and their hearts with a free gift of the greatest free gift of all eternity?

Hear, download, and distribute your free TCC Christmas audio tract

Our

Let’s continue partnering together to keep our for TCC and the Church in Canada strong! Here are three strategic prayer points for you, your family, and your church to remember in December:

  • For the Lord to draw more and more listeners and supporters to TCC Radio, and for Him to bring the volunteer production team we need to launch and sustain our upcoming reality television program on The Stream TV.
  • For the Lord to help us plan and produce the “TCC Radio LIVE! @ Christmas” series for His glory.
  • For the Lord to speak to the hearts of more believers about giving generously to TCC’s work of preaching the Gospel in Canada through witnessing, training, and expanded radio/video production.

Continue keeping a pulse on our mutual prayer needs

We thank God for you and for your ongoing partnership in preaching His Gospel in Canada.

For His Glory,

The TCC Team

Getting “Origins Into Schools”

Friday, November 20th, 2009

“Happy Birthday to you…Happy Birthday to you…Happy Birthday dear Chucky and Origin of Species…<dramatic pause>…Happy Birthday to you!”

Did you know that 2010 marks the anniversary of a double birthday? This year is the 200th birthday of Charles Darwin and the 150th birthday of his book, Origin of Species. In fact, in addition to the outreach resource discussed in this posting,  if you want to pick up a fantastic documentary and witnessing tool on the subject, I encourage you to visit the homepage of Creation Ministries International and buy the video called “Darwin: The Voyage That Shook the World”. Our friends at CMI have definitely succeeded in putting together a very accurate and gracious autobiographical tool on one of the most enigmatic figures of the last couple hundred years!

However, tomorrow afternoon, we’re really getting “Origin Into Schools”. TCC and the Harvest Bible Chapel of London Gospel Outreach “GO” Team will be crashing the gates of the University of Western Ontario armed with origin/worldview scripts, Bibles, and free (”Gospelized”) copies of Chuck Darwin’s Origin of Species books. Wait! Before you log off our blog, rest assured that this is no unique complementary copy of the classic…and this is no unique outreach either!

Please take a moment to watch this promo video on “Origin Into Schools” with Kirk Cameron of Living Waters.

Now, while the video mainly focuses on schools south of the border, I trust you all know that things are just as bad or worse across our home and native land! That’s why we’re asking you to partner with us in prayer tomorrow and all this coming week.

Will you set aside time from 12pm to 4pm tomorrow to pray for our Gospel outreach team and all the other outreach teams across North America who will partnering together to preach the truth on university and colleges campuses? As you may or may not know, the “free speech zones” that our American brothers and sisters in Christ enjoy while preaching the Gospel at schools are not quite as common or accessible in Canada. That’s just one of the many reasons why we need your prayer! As we always say at TCC: “If you pray without witnessing you’re a hypocrite. If you witness without praying you’re a lunatic. The battle is won in the prayer time!”

I also encourage you to check back to this blog often for more news and updates as the Canadian “Origins into Schools” initiative unfolds.

Finally, please take full advantage of the following resources for finding common conversational ground in the origins issue as you share the Gospel with all those in your personal relationships and beyond!

Producer’s Notes: The God-Man

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

TCC-TheGod-Man The next episode of TCC Radio is called “The God-Man.” The Scriptures and History demonstrates that Christians, from the very beginning of Christianity, have always believed that Jesus Christ was both fully man and fully God. So, did the writer’s of the New Testament just make this idea up? If not where did it come from? Please check out the Producer’s Notes for help with using this episode of TCC Radio in sharing your faith.

Prayer Pulse – November 2009

Friday, November 13th, 2009

prayer-points1

Thanks again to all the burdened believers who cried out to the Lord together both in person and at a distance during our monthly day of fasting and evening of prayer yesterday.

Do you know that this past Sunday, November 8th was the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church? That’s why, in addition to praying for several imminent needs of The Cross Current, we also lifted up in prayer our faithful brothers and sisters from around the world who are constantly rejoicing that they are being counted worthy to suffer dishonour for the Name of our Lord and Saviour (Acts 5:41)!

After we humbled ourselves and repented of our sin before the Lord, our team of evangelists spent time seeking His face and petitioning Him with the following prayer needs:

THE CROSS CURRENT

Witnessing/Training

  • November 14th: for the Lord to provide Harvest Bible Chapel of London with a breakthrough day of training in personal witnessing as we roll out this new stream of TCC teaching for the very first time.

Outreach Broadcast

  • For the Lord to draw more and more listeners and supporters to TCC Radio and our upcoming reality television program on The Stream TV.
  • For the Lord to help us plan and produce next month’s special Christmas edition of our TCC Radio LIVE! series. (TCC LIVE! is a special series we’re running with Cory McKenna and his pastor, Norm Millar in the studio of Grace FM in London. It will connect the Church to the culture through biblical dialogue in the studio and live Gospel presentations from call in listeners on the street.)

Donor Development

  • For the Lord to speak to the hearts of more believers about the giving to TCC’s work of preaching the Gospel in Canada through witnessing and expanded radio/video production.

THE PERSECUTED CHURCH

Our team spent the rest of our time praying through each of the prayer points made available in downloadable PowerPoint here on the International Day of Prayer website. Will you and your church commit to praying for each of these crucial needs as well?

In closing, I again personally thank God for you and for your prayer partnership with us! Please click here for more information on how you can continue praying with and for our ministry.

For His Glory,

Cory

Onward, Christian Soldiers!

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

By Kevin Lane

I attended the Remembrance Day services at Sullivan’s Pond in Dartmouth Nova Scotia today. I was properly dressed in my Canadian Forces dress uniform  but I was not actually in the parade. My wife and I got to take the services in as part of the crowd. As the vets marched past us the crowd was clapping. Then the clapping fell away, that is until the currently serving members of the Canadian Forces began to march past. As the crowd was clapping for these men and women I was considering the various perspectives.

Any time I’ve been on parade and had civilians clap for me, I’ve gone through a series of emotions. It always starts with surprise which quickly turns to embarrassment. My thoughts are always, why are they clapping for the likes of me? Invariably though, I try to put myself in their shoes. How does a civilian see a serving soldier? As one who willingly will lay their life down to protect the hope of the nation. I guess I understand why they clap, even if it does embarrass me and those I serve with.

Onward, Christian Soldiers was sung again this year. What an overtly Christian song! I love it! As it was being sung I noticed some of the younger members on parade were looking around in obvious discomfort. I suppose they didn’t like the lyrics, and probably couldn’t figure out why that song was being sung at all. I asked my wife how many more years she thinks the public will tolerate the singing of Onward Christian Soldiers on Remembrance Day. This thought reminded me of a conversation I had with the Pastor Karl Armstrong just yesterday.

We were sitting in Tim Horton’s drinking coffee and talking about being Christian. I can tell you without shame that I was absolutely gushing with emotion as I listened to the man speak. One funny thing though was we ended up each admitting to each other that we are Star Wars and Star Trek fans. This led to a discussion of the Lord of The Rings movies.  Pastor Karl told me that he loves to quote a line from The Two Towers (the second LOTR movie) when he’s explaining the truth of where Canada is today.The character Theoden says “I will not risk open war” to which the character Aragorn says “Open war is upon you whether you would risk it or not.”

Christians, in days past it seemed like we could be quite and avoid controversy. It seemed better to many not to risk stiring up a fight that would only bring misery. Beloved, I bring warning from the front lines – Open war is upon us whether we would risk it or not.

I stand gratefully clapping for those who’s feet are shod with the preparation of the Gospel today. You Christians who carry God’s Word in and to this lost and dying culture are heroes! This year again the words “Merry Christmas!” will be frowned on. Christmas church services in many areas will be theatre plays bent on entertaining people instead of warning them of the Wrath to come. While the World will wage war against the Gospel of Christ, and while that same war will cost the souls of millions many Christians will be crying “Peace! Peace!”

Beloved, don’t go quietly into the night. Proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for any who believe! It’s a small fight to be called to, but the cost of not fighting it is unthinkable.

Onward, Christian Soldier!

Onward, Christian soldiers,
Marching as to war.
With the cross of Jesus
Going on before!
Christ, the royal Master,
Leads against the foe;
Forward into battle,
See His banner go!

Onward, Christian soldiers,
Marching as to war.
With the cross of Jesus
Going on before!

At the sign of triumph
Satan’s host dost flee;
On, then, Christian soldiers,
On to victory!
Hell’s foundations quiver
At the shout of praise;
Brothers, lift your voices,
Loud your anthems raise!

Onward, Christian soldiers,
Marching as to war.
With the cross of Jesus
Going on before!

Like a mighty army
Moves the church of God;
Brothers, we are treading
Where the saints have trod;
We are not divided;
All one body we,
One in hope and doctrine,
One in charity.

Onward, Christian soldiers,
Marching as to war.
With the cross of Jesus
Going on before!

Onward, then ye people,
Join our happy throng,
Blend with ours your voices
In the triumph song;
Glory, laud, and honor,
Unto Christ the King:
This thro’ countless ages
Men and angels sing.

Onward, Christian soldiers,
Marching as to war.
With the cross of Jesus
Going on before!

T4G2010 | The Unadjusted Gospel

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

Our team is TOTALLY STOKED about our trip to the Together for the Gospel Conference on April 13 – 15, 2010 in Louisville, Kentucky! What better place for our little army of Gospel preachers to sharpen our swords for a few days?

Here’s where their website says that we’re headed together at this conference:

The (Unadjusted) Gospel. That’s a topic worth thinking about for several days with several thousand other pastors and church leaders. Don’t you think?

The good news does not adjust. It’s always the same and it’s always good. Jesus Christ, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever proclaims a message that’s the same yesterday, today, and forever.  So should we.

We hope you will join us in Louisville April 2010 to think about that message and why it’s the heart of ministry.

Amen! We have to continue defending and confirming the unchanging truth of the Gospel that those who have gone before us have died to preach!

Are you interested in coming together for the Gospel in April 2010? This conference only happens every two years…so please consider joining us! You never know…maybe…just maybe…we’ll spill out onto the streets of Louisville afterward to see the power of our foolish preaching in action!
