Helpful Hints – Operation: Unknown Christian (Part 1)

Welcome to your audio for part 1 of our very first “top secret” series of TCC Radio, Operation: Unknown Christian! Here is the strategic course we’ve plotted for this mission together:

There is an army of secret operatives in our midst. These soldiers are so far “under ground” that most people – even their allies – are not even aware of their presence. The shocking truth is that one might even be hiding right under your nose! What are we going to do about it Canada?

The goal of this series is to reveal the practices of Christians hiding among the lost and to motivate them back into active service as soldiers under command to contribute to the cause of Christ in Canada.

We invite you to break the ice and build conversational bridges with those in your life by saying something like this:

“Hey, have I ever told you that I am affiliated with a reality radio show that surveys the public about hot topics in what they call a “spiritual speakers’ corner”? Yeah, they are called “TCC Radio” and they have invited me to survey a few people I know about the subject of private versus public faith. Do you mind if I get a few of your thoughts on the subject?”

If they say “yes” (and they probably will), we suggest that you tell them that you are a bit nervous and that you would like to read from the same interview script that our radio reps used throughout the production of this series.

Here is the script:

1. Are you a Christian?

2. (If so) How many people know that about you? (If not) How many Christians do you know? (If none, use question 3b).

3. Why do they know you are a Christian? Did you tell them?

3a. How did you know they are a Christian? Did they tell you?

3b. How do you think you would know if a person was a Christian? Would they tell you?

4. Why do you think a Christian may want to keep others from knowing they are one?

5. If there is a God, how do you think He should treat people who say they know Him, but don’t?

6. If there is a God, how do you think He’d treat people who claim to know Him but try to hide it?

7. Do you think that you are good enough for Him to accept you?

From there you can either share the Gospel or simply invite the person to tune into the show! Just let them know that TCC Radio broadcasts in Ontario on Friday at 7pm on Grace 105.9 FM in London and on The Stream TV out of Orangeville. It also podcasts on www.tccradio.com.

Please also remember to email us your Gospel glory stories and personal encounters in everyday evangelism to: radio@thecrosscurrent.com.

Thank you again for your ongoing commitment to preaching the Gospel in partnership with us! May Christ’s Church in Canada make His Name great everyday, everywhere, with everyone this week!

Helpful Hints – Thou Shalt Not (Part 4)

Welcome to your audio for making the most of our fourth and final episode in our TCC Radio series talking about law. This week we are going to give you the inside scoop by sharing the writers notes and resources from the desktop of TCC Radio Script Writer, Producer, and Engineer: Kevin Lane. Here’s what Kevin has to say about this episode…

We spoke about the purpose of law in Part 1, and in Parts 2 and 3 we asked people on the streets what they thought the purpose of law was. In this episode, we’re going to get to the practical application of law.

Are the Courts being judgmental when they test someone’s actions against the laws of the land? I suppose a case could be made either way, depending on your point of view. But are Christians being judgmental when they help people test their lives against the Law of God?

The Bible says that Christians will judge the angels. Even in this world there is a famous “bar exam” just to be a lawyer. How much more one must be qualified to be a judge? People don’t say to a police officer, “who made you judge and jury?” Nor should they say that to a Christian who is using righteous judgment.

If you rush into a burning house, grab a man, and haul him out, were you calling him stupid for being in the house? Are you saying that you are a better man than he is? Or did you just recognize that he was as helpless as you’d be and decided to do something about it?

Of division in the Church, Jude says to have compassion on some, but others he says to save them as though you were pulling them out of the fire. That’s the same with witnessing: some are prepared for the Evangelist, and sometimes the Evangelist has to be the hero firefighter – either way our goal is to get the person out of danger.

So keep that all in mind as you go for it this week and invite your family and friends to tune into the show!

May we resolve together to serve our King with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength again this week!

Welcome again to your audio for making the most of Part 3 of our current series of TCC Radio talking about law.

This week we’ll be broadcasting a very candid conversation that TCC Rep Chris enjoyed with a girl by the name of Jane. When inviting your loved ones or otherwise to tune in, we would encourage you to leverage the transparency and vulnerability of this interview, by saying something like this:

“Hey, have you ever heard of a wild reality radio show that broadcasts right here in Canada called TCC Radio? Are you familiar with the concept of “speakers corner”? Well, they actually do a “spiritual speakers corner” where they interview average, everyday people on the streets about the toughest topics  people are talking about in our culture! This month they are doing a special on law – do you agree with all the laws in Canada?”

From there you can have your own candid conversation about laws, government, politics, and whatever else the Lord may lead the conversation towards. After a few minutes, you can then transition your talk by saying something like this:

“Well, this week TCC Radio is broadcasting a really “in-your-face” conversation about law that promises to be one of their most fascinating interviews ever! Not only will they be talking with a total stranger about the laws of our land, but they’ll also be asking whether there might be supernatural laws from God as well! You have a lot of really interesting comments on this subject! Will you listen to the show with me so we can chat about it more afterwards?”

Let them know TCC Radio broadcasts in Ontario at 7pm on Grace 105.9 FM in London and on The Stream TV out of Orangeville. It also podcasts on www.tccradio.com.

Please also remember to email us your Gospel glory stories and personal encounters in everyday evangelism to: radio@thecrosscurrent.com.

May the Lord bless you and keep you as you be His witness in your own “Jerusalem” this week!

Newsletter | January – February 2009

Monday, March 16th, 2009

Welcome to our first e-Newsletter of 2009! These brief, bi-monthly email messages will give you the bottom line on all the latest and greatest happenings, highlights, and Gospel glory stories we encounter as we serve the Church to keep the Cross current in Canada.

THE CROSS CURRENT is flowing into THE STREAM TV!

Evangelical researchers estimate that there are currently close to 30 million lost souls in Canada. It is also estimated that over 20 million Canadians and over 1.5 billion others actively surf the Internet. Put those stats together and it seems fitting that our gracious God would allow us to launch an Internet-based reality TV show to preach the Gospel in Canada and around the world!

The Cross Current Reality TV Trailer

Not only can TCC Radio now be heard via podcast and multiple broadcast radio stations, but The Cross Current Reality TV show will soon be flowing into The Stream TV to share the living water of Christ across the web in hopes that God will use the program powerfully to reconcile online sinners to Himself.

The Stream TV is a program producer that buys time on TV stations and networks for the purpose of broadcasting quality Christian programming. It is owned and operated by Quick Study TV and enjoys thousands upon thousands of hits every day and thousands of Internet surfers also download programs from the site on a daily basis as well. Currently people can hear the TCC Radio broadcast in Ontario every Friday at 7:00pm EST on 105.9 FM in London and every Monday and Tuesday at 1:00pm EST on 90.1 FM in Orangeville.

CREATION MAGAZINE LIVE! hosts TCC

Evolution. Just the mere mention of the word in a conversation about Christ can make Christians confused and skeptics more confident. This past January, our very own Cory McKenna was invited to sit in as an “expert witness” on the final episode of the Creation Magazine Live! TV series in an episode called Effective Evangelism in a Evolutionized World, scheduled to air later this year. We trust that the Lord will use TCC’s biblical insights, Gospel glory stories, and unscripted street clips to help equip His Church to engage the culture. Special thanks to Creation Ministries International for allowing us the opportunity of adding value to your vision for this series!

TCC preaches “THROUGH THE ROOF” at UWO

Colleges and universities are among the most resistant places in our culture to share Christ. Recent studies indicate that less than one-half of one percent of adults aged 18 to 23 have a biblical worldview. Coupled with the fact that more and more students are professing atheists, it’s been our experience that discussing concepts of faith, truth, and certainly the message of Jesus Christ on Canadian campuses often becomes much more confrontational than one of our typical “soul-winning Saturdays”!

Cory McKenna was recently hosted as a keynote Gospel preacher on the University of Western Ontario campus at an event called Through the Roof. Thankfully, he and the TCC Rep team onsite all lived to tell the story and give God the glory! When the dust had settled, the Good News was shared and our Reps were even extended the opportunity to invite several of the students onsite to take part in a very special video edition of our spiritual speakers corner!

As you watch this video of TCC Rep Chris Wood interviewing Christian UWO students Nick and Amy, think about how you would answer these “foundational” questions about the authority of Scripture!

SOUL-WINNING in SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN!

TCC went west at the end of February where Cory served as a keynote speaker to youth, young adults, and adults at a home education conference. It was so encouraging to spend time in fellowship with another army of young “prairie preachers” and the evangelism and apologetic training was received with joy and gladness!

NEW CROSS CARRIER VIDEO!

After a wild ride of technical adversity, our new Cross Carrier donor video is finally finished! Special thanks to:

  • Jon Sodeman of Harvest Bible Chapel London for graciously donating his time to engineer the video and Pastor Norm Millar for letting him!:)
  • A.J. Vink and Pete Jafelice for sharing their musical gifts and donating the exclusive Cross Carrier theme song, “Trust in You” (Click here to listen to the full version of the song).

If you agree that Canada needs Christ, please take just 5 minutes to watch this short video invitation to carry the Cross with us.

TCC SEED SOWING STATS | January -- February 2009

Despite these dark, desperate, and terribly cold last two months, rest assured that the light of Christ is still shining bright in the great white north!

Here are a couple ministry praise reports over the past two months:

  • -- TCC equipped approximately 75 Christians to biblically share their faith with loved ones and strangers.
  • Witnessing -- Our local street team personally shared the Gospel with over 150 lost souls and passed over 1000 Gospel tracts!

TCC RADIO REVIEW | January -- February 2009

Got Hope? | January

Got hope? Well, we hope this series will help you get it if you don’t! But what is hope anyway? A desire or wish for something to happen in the future? Nope. It is actually the current expectation of a future event that is sure to happen. And faith is the substance of hope, depending on it to happen. In light of that, is there is anything we can really hope for or have faith in?

Love Endures | February

“All you need is love, love, love is all you need.” So John Lennon says, but is that really true? Well, what better time to find out than during the month of love -- February? And that’s exactly what we did! Who do you love, who loves you, and why? None of us can really answer that question until we know what true love is. Will you challenge the fear in your heart to come along on an adventure with us as we check out what moves the hearts of real people in our culture?

Hell hit home yesterday

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

by Kevin Lane

If you’re familiar with this blog, and this ministry you know that I’m no stranger to the topic of Hell. You’ll probably believe that I have taken that topic very seriously. It’s a topic that drives me to preach only the absolute true Gospel of Jesus Christ with as much fidelity as I can. If you were familiar with my other work you’d know I have leveraged the reality of Hell in conversations with people who do violence to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and yet claim to do evangelism.

Well yesterday the search for one of my most loved friends was called off as the Sun was setting. He had crashed in a brand new helicopter off the coast of Newfound Land, doing a job I he had told me he wanted to do as far back as 1998. I love this man. I have very few people who have been and always will be my friend in this life. I won’t give details of who he is because of the pain of the people he loved.

This man is someone who knew I loved him. And as much as I had told him I was a Christian… and talked about that to some extent I never once preached the Gospel to him.

Yesterday I had to face the reality that my beloved friend, gentle, caring, smart, effective, and loyal is almost surely in Hell. I prayed that God would meet him in the water and warm him to keep him alive. I prayed that God would Himself witness to him right then. And I truly believe God can stop time in a moment and give someone that chance. But the reality is, this man I loved was never a believer in all the time that I’ve known him and I didn’t preach the Gospel to him.

Hell has never been so real to me. I have never felt pain like this. I hope you will consider yourself in my position the next time you think you don’t want to “rock the boat” or “offend” someone you love. Consider what it would be like to know they are in the fires of Hell, and you didn’t do the one thing God told you to do to help them.

I’m telling you this, plainly and with the full knowledge that I haven’t softened the message at all because I want to somehow save you the need to vomit when the reality of Hell hits you. Please take what I’ve shared here and use it to save your loved ones.

PRAYER PULSE – March 2009

Helpful Hints – Thou Shalt Not (Part 2)

Welcome again to your audio for making the most of Part 2 of our brand new series of TCC Radio on the Law.

This week we encourage you to use one particular shocking story from the news as a relational springboard to talk with lost people about man’s law, God’s Law, and then God’s grace and love as demonstrated through His Gospel.

It was a crime so horrifying and so heinous that it shocked and sickened people around the world. As horror-struck passengers watched, Vince Weiguang Li stabbed and beheaded 22-year-old Tim McLean on a Greyhound bus last summer. And now, after only three days of hearing the case, it’s expected that Vince Li won’t be found criminally responsible for his actions!

OK, that’s your background and here is how you can use it as an ice-breaker…

Simply say something like this to your family member or friend:

“Hey, did you hear the verdict in that case of that Greyhound bus killer? How do you think the victim’s mother must feel about law in Canada right now?”

From there you can let them answer and begin dialoguing with you about it. After a few minutes of conversation, you can transition your talk by saying something like this:

“You actually have some really interesting opinions about law in Canada! Have you ever heard of a show called ‘TCC Radio’? It’s a Canadian talk show recorded in the public square that interviews people about hot topics in the culture in what they call a speakers corner and a spiritual speakers corner. That just means they hit the streets to hear peoples’ opinions in search of truth on those tough matters of life and death that we’re all faced with every day.”

Let them respond, and then continue with:

“Well, this week they are doing a  special series on both criminal law and spiritual law. Would you listen to it with me so we can chat about what we hear afterwards?”

Let them know TCC Radio broadcasts in Ontario at 7pm on Grace 105.9 FM in London and on The Stream TV out of Orangeville. It also podcasts on www.tccradio.com.

Oh, and please remember to email us your Gospel glory stories and personal encounters in everyday evangelism to: radio@thecrosscurrent.com.

Let’s encourage each other to step out in faith to share our faith this week!

Universal Energy

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Hi Everyone,

Allow me to share a great conversation I just had with a door to door rep for universalenergy company.  My son Cameron and I were kicking the soccer ball outside after lunch and a young man named Vince approached me to talk energy pricing and my utility bill.  I said I wasn’t interested and he went on to the next house.  I returned to the soccer game with a huge prompting to speak to this guy about eternal matters.  Sure enough, Vince did an about face and went to a few other homes and had to pass by Cam and I.  I asked him if he had a minute and told him I was affiliated with a radio show that is like a spiritual speakers corner.  He had know problem letting me ask the million dollar question.  Ten minutes later the Lord allowed me to speak truth to this young man through the law and grace of Jesus Christ.  Vince had a Roman Catholic background and after our frank discussion he can now understand that good works, baptism, confession and hail Mary’s can’t get him into Heaven.  He took a tract and said “this is funny” – I said “what is funny” – he said ” two nights ago I was thinking about God and Heaven and I really wanted to talk to someboody about it, but didn’t know who to talk too.  God is soooo awesome.  I live in Ridgetown and Vince makes his home in Toronto.  He was literally in the neighbourhood for 1 hour.  Praise the Lord!  Please pray for the salvation of Vince.

On a side note – my 5 year old son got to listen to the whole conversation and after when I asked if he knew what I was doing, he answered, “you had to talk to that guy about Jesus, maybe when I’m bigger I can do that with you.”  God is so amazing.  Always obey the living “universal energy” when He prompts you - you’ll never be disappointed.

Jeff

Helpful Hints – Thou Shalt Not (Part 1)

Welcome to your audio for making the most of our brand new series of TCC Radio on the Law.

Right off the top, we thought it would be helpful to equip you with the exact same script we used on the streets as a conversational/relational springboard towards sharing the Gospel with your family and friends.

Here’s something like you can say to say something like we said:-)

I don’t know if I have told you or not, but I am actually affiliated with this reality radio (and soon to be TV) program called The Cross Current that invites the public to voice their opinions in a spiritual speakers’ corner. They encourage me to survey some of the people I know (and we do!) and this series they are talking with people about the Law – can I get your opinions on the questions they will be asking other people on the air?

(If yes) We are forever being affected by law in Canada and so they are producing a series on law. Here are the questions:

1. In your opinion, why are laws important? (Would you agree that ideally laws are important because they help protect and provide for those who keep them and help punish those who break them?)

2. If you were Prime Minister of Canada, what sorts of laws would you add? Why? What sorts of laws would you take away? Why?

3. Have you ever studied the history of law? Many would believe that the original code of moral law came from the Jewish Torah in the form of ten rules. Do you know what they are called? (The Ten Commandments)

4. Are you familiar with the Ten Commandments? How many can you name?

5. Do you know Who wrote the Ten Commandments? (God) I mentioned that The Cross Current does a “spiritual” speakers’ corner too. Do you believe in God? Why or why not?

Bridge: If the Ten Commandments were God’s standard for who is “good enough” to go to heaven, how would you do?

From there we encourage you to step out in faith and share the Gospel and also invite them to tune in to hear the truth about law and order – in light of eternity!

Let them know that TCC Radio broadcasts in Ontario this Friday at 7pm on Grace 105.9 FM in London and on The Stream TV out of Orangeville. It also podcasts on www.tccradio.com.

Oh, and once again, please send us your Gospel glory stories and personal encounters in everyday evangelism to: radio@thecrosscurrent.com.

We thank God for you and look forward to another great week preaching His Gospel together!
